Liz Farrow writes...
This year's Adult/Junior competition was on May 3rd, Bank Holiday Monday. And a typical British Bank Holiday it was! The weather ranged from miserable and damp first thing to torrential rain by lunchtime and eventually to warm afternoon sunshine. But nothing puts off the juniors in the Southern Region. Whatever the weather they are there giving it their all. I had volunteered to play with a spare junior and was matched with Martin, an eight year old player from Worthing in his first big competition. He was a wonderful partner and together we managed to get as far as the semi-finals of The Plate before being knocked out. This was an enormous achievement for such a young junior. Martin played superbly and astounded many of the adults that we came up against with his obvious talent. He has a long way to go in petanque and I hope he will remember his first big day and possibly his partner on that day for a long time to come. In all there were 24 teams and I must repeat what I have often said that these juniors are a real credit to the region.
